TOM SELBY – J.T. Selby Heating, Plumbing and Gas
FOR CHARITABLE WORK TO RAISE MONEY FOR CANCER TREATMENT.
Tom galvanised a group of heating engineers across the UK to exchange boiler services for donations to help a woman with aggressive cancer find a new treatment.
31-year-old Jadi Best from Bingham, East Midlands, had started a GoFundMe, looking for £100,000 to trial different treatments from specialists in a bid to live a longer life.

“When I first heard she needed £10,000 I thought she’d be able to make that quite easily through donations, but when the figure shot up to £100,000 I knew I had to do something to help.
“The best thing I could think of was offering boiler services in exchange for a £50 donation and I’ve been brilliantly supported by other engineers across the UK. At first local engineer Marcus Bull offered his support and then things took off on social media and support came in from across the UK. It was good for the customers too because it might encourage people who wouldn’t normally get their boiler checked to do so, knowing it’s for a good cause.
“The initial plan was to do 100 services and raise as much as possible, we’ve already achieved that and still the money is coming in. The great thing is engineers often do more work on a job than anticipated and donate all the proceeds. The whole local community and engineers across the country are working together for a good cause and it’s great to see.”
