The Great Debates

The Great Debates returns to InstallerSHOW – and this year we’re doubling the number of debates because, quite simply, there’s just so much to talk about. Twice a day, on the InstallerPLAZA, industry experts, decision-makers, manufacturers and installers will tackle the industry’s biggest issues – they won’t always agree, but that’s what makes a great debate. Subjects to be looked at this year include:

Hydrogen Heating – the roll-out and what it means for installers

Hydrogen gas has been identified as one of the key potential pathways for the UK to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The natural gas currently used by the 85% of homes connected to the gas grid, is responsible for up to 30% of the UK’s carbon emissions. Hydrogen produces no carbon when burned, making it a greener energy solution for heating and cooking. Major boiler manufacturers have created prototype 100% hydrogen-burning boilers, the UK’s first homes with appliances fuelled entirely by hydrogen are being showcased, and more hydrogen-adoption projects are in the pipeline. Our expert panel discusses the latest updates and feasibility on the potential rollout of hydrogen heating systems, and what it means for installers.

BetaTALK podcast live – engineers are the key to reducing carbon emissions

BetaTalk is an award-winning podcast that champions positive change for renewables and clean technology. Host Nathan Van Gambling is joined by some of the top heating and plumbing professionals in the industry for a live discussion about how engineers are the key to reducing carbon emissions, lowering fuel bills, and raising comfort for customers.

The products we have NOW to achieve net zero

A lot of headlines are made around the FUTURE of powering our homes, but there are products and techniques that we can implement NOW that can have a huge affect on our comfort and emissions. Our expert panel takes a look at the “hidden gems” of sustainability including low temperature heating, system balancing, deaeration, pressurisation and more. Plus how engineers can adopt these game-changing methods.

Smart Homes - The future is now

Rising costs have made headline news, highlighting the need for UK buildings to use energy as efficiently as possible, or even better, create their own. Connected and smart products that can link together to use energy in the most efficient way, are key as we transition to a low carbon future. From solar panels, to smart controls, battery storage, electric boilers, EV charging and more, our panel discusses how installers can get involved in the Connected Home revolution.

How we can hit heat pump targets

2021 was a big year for heat pumps as the government announced plans to install 600,000 heat pumps every year by 2028 and backed it up with a £5,000 grant to encourage adoption. Our panel discusses how engineers can transition to heat pump systems, covering system design, insulation, emitters, installation, commissioning, government grants and more.

Water - how to protect our most precious resource

The importance of access to clean, safe water is essential to UK homes, and is perhaps taken for granted when we talk about the energy mix.

The Government released its 2020 Environment Bill which has some strict water targets. In that, they’re predicting there will be a structural deficit of water resources by 2050. Our panel looks at how we can optimise our water usage, and the technology that will allow us to protect our most important resource.
