Graduated from The Newcastle University, where she met her husband, Ian. She is a qualified Chartered Secretary. Her employment spans Local Government, the private and charitable/education sectors including Dunlop, Newcastle Polytechnic, Gateshead & Berkshire Councils, the Automobile Association, alcohol counselling and medical charities. She was the first Independent Board member of the CIPHE. She established then ran a Benevolent fund for the Chartered Institute of Building and was CEO of the Institution of Gas Engineers. Many roles were with organisations embracing change who required a ‘fixer, mover or shaker.’ Sandra lived overseas for 10 years, working as a Governance Consultant. She enjoys helping others to realise their potential for example she introduced initiatives to encourage women to re-enter the workforce and volunteered as an adult literacy tutor. At the Plumbers she established the Women in the Livery to encourage membership recruitment diversity. She sits on the Board of the Plumbing Museum.
