Martin is the London Water Leader at Arup, an international engineering consultancy, which provides design, engineering, architecture, planning, and advisory services across every aspect of the built environment, with over 90 offices worldwide.
He has over 30 years’ experience in the water sector working on jobs across Building Engineering, Advisory and Infrastructure. He has extensive experience in the field of water system engineering, having been involved in a wide range of major projects in design, research, and consultancy across the world. His expertise includes water supply, sanitation, sewerage, water conservation and efficiency, water quality, water treatment, wastewater engineering and infrastructure services. He has represented the UK on standards development at national (BSi) and international levels (EN and ISO). Martin is focussed on delivering urban water resilience to cities - addressing too much, too little, or too polluted water.
He leads Arup’s City Water Resilience Approach (CWRA) which helps cities to understand their water resilience challenges and help to create the conditions for investment; the approach has been deployed in over 25 cities. He has extensive experience working with water stakeholders across the urban and rural realms. Martin is past Chair of the UK’s Society of Public Health Engineers (SoPHE) and as well as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) and a member of the Court of the Worshipful Company of Plumbers. He is a Freeman of the City of London.
