Jerry’s career began as an apprentice in plumbing and heating, a journey that set him on a path of lifelong learning. He gained a wealth of experience from two brothers who taught him not only the technical aspects of plumbing and heating but also invaluable life skills. Jerry holds the fondest memories of that formative time. Driven by ambition from a young age, Jerry took the plunge into self-employment, building on the experience he had gained. He went on to employ his own apprentices and staff, further enriching his professional journey. His passion for sharing knowledge led him into the Further Education sector, where he passed on his skills while continuing to learn himself. Over the years, Jerry worked in many colleges in roles ranging from lecturer to middle manager. He considers the greatest reward of these positions to be the moments when former students recognise him years later and thank him for the role he played in their lives — a true measure of success. Today, Jerry serves as Technical Manager at the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE). In this role, he brings his key attributes of support, development, and integrity to a wide range of projects. He believes quality and integrity are central to success and values the opportunity to contribute to an institute dedicated to professionals. Jerry also judges plumbing and heating competitions across the country, including the HIP Learner of the Year, All Female Skills Competition, Heating Installer of the Year, and the Installer Merit Awards. He sees these events as powerful celebrations of people achieving extraordinary things. His work at CIPHE involves supporting members through the Technical Helpline, collaborating across the industry, and engaging strategically with issues such as skills shortages and legislative changes. He feels fortunate that his role is regarded as a pinnacle of the industry and is held in high respect. Through CIPHE, Jerry is able to bring his wide-ranging experience to many areas of the sector, supporting his lifelong passion for plumbing and heating and the professional community that makes a difference every day.
