Ian Rippin is Chief Executive at MCS ' the Microgeneration Certification Scheme Ian is CEO of MCS, the UK's quality mark for renewable energy technologies like solar PV and heat pumps, that are installed in homes and small businesses. They set clear product and installation standards and protect consumers ' giving everyone confidence in home-grown energy. Throughout 2025 and into 2026, Ian is leading MCS through a period of transformational change, as MCS transitions to the Redeveloped Installer Scheme to raise standards, improve consumer protections, and ultimately drive quality across the renewables sector. His career underpins his passion for quality and the role that Standards play in protecting consumers. He's held leadership roles focused on quality assurance, including for the Environment Agency and the Canadian Standards Association. He is a trusted voice and advisor on what needs to be done at a government and industry-level to sustain momentum in the home-grown energy market, With MCS headquartered at Sci-Tech Daresbury in Halton. He also supports Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham as a member of the Greater Manchester Retrofit Taskforce.
