Dr Porter is the CEO of BEAMA, the Trade body for the UK electrical and allied manufacturing industry. He has been in this post for 12 years. He has held several other influential roles, working with Government and industry, on the full range of issues including the post BREXIT regulatory environment, the electrification of transport and heat, and the future of manufacturing in the UK.
He has a particular expertise in the use of technology to address climate change and the use of energy, with DPhil in the energy efficiency of housing, with an early career in research at the Building Research Establishment. Other roles include chairmanship of the Strategic Advisory group on the development of standards for smart appliances and demand side management, membership of the advisory group for the future of electric vehicle infrastructures and of the future of heat expert panel.
