Chief Executive Officer , International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO)
Dave Viola serves as Chief Executive Officer of IAPMO and the International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Foundation (IWSH), where he leads a global team advancing public health and safety through codes, standards, education, and community impact. With more than 30 years of experience across the construction, plumbing, HVAC, and sustainability sectors, Dave has played a key role in strengthening IAPMO as a leader in shaping a safer built environment. He provides strategic direction for IAPMO’s codes and standards, ensuring they reflect the latest technologies, practices, and priorities for public health and resilience. Dave joined IAPMO in 2007, serving as Chief Operating Officer prior to becoming CEO. In that role, he oversaw strategic and operational leadership across the full scope of IAPMO programs, including codes and standards, product testing, certification and inspection services, and professional development. He also served as 2025 Chairman of the World Plumbing Council, guiding global collaboration on water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives. His earlier work as Technical Director with Plumbing Manufacturers International (PMI) gave him deep insight into product standards and industry innovation. A plumber and mechanical engineer with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Northern Illinois University, Dave has served on or contributed to multiple technical committees and boards in the United States and Canada, including AWE, ASME, ANSI, and ASHRAE. His career reflects a sustained commitment to advancing consensus-driven codes and standards that protect health, improve system performance, and drive innovation across the industry.
