Dr David Allinson is a Reader in Building Physics and leads the Building Energy Research Group, in the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering at Loughborough University. His research combines measurement and modelling techniques to evaluate the energy, thermal, and moisture performance of homes. David recently led the BEIS-funded Technical Evaluation of SMETER Technologies (TEST) Project, working in close collaboration with Halton Housing, Leeds Beckett University and UCL. SMETER technologies use algorithms to calculate the Heat Transfer Coefficient (HTC) of occupied homes from smart meter data. He is now working with AECOM to develop analysis which enables BEIS and DLUHC to reach conclusions on the feasibility, approach, and business case for developing arrangements for the national implementation of in-use performance metrics in support of Net Zero housing and heating
