Lyrical Communications, the company behind InstallerSHOW and the Installer and elemental digital platforms, has forged a partnership with Grundfos, the full range supplier of pumps and pump solutions, to shine a light on women in the HVAC space.
InstallerSPOTLIGHT is a multimedia campaign designed to highlight the positive stories, as well as the challenges faced by women in the industry. Drawing on the experiences of a cross-section of women, from managing directors to engineers to apprentices, it will comprise a series of video interviews and written content in the coming months, culminating in a panel discussion live at InstallerSHOW 2024 (NEC Birmingham, June 25-27).
According to the 2023 Increasing diversity in the heating sector to address the skills shortage and meet Net Zero report by Energy Systems Catapult, women make up just 2% of the heating industry workforce. The report identifies a host of areas which need addressing, including training opportunities, flexible working, and unsafe work environments. It also points out that a historically male-dominated sector (which is also tackling an age demographic issue) results in limited networking opportunities for women – particularly if they aren’t active on social media or do not have existing contacts.
Through InstallerSPOTLIGHT, the aim is to collaborate with existing organisations to build a resource that gives women already in the industry, as well as those looking to pursue a career in HVAC, the opportunity to make connections within a community that offers a variety of perspectives on the pathways to success and longevity.
The campaign will run across the Installer, elemental and InstallerSHOW websites and social channels, with the event at InstallerSHOW providing the chance to network in person.
Lucy Dixon, Head of Content for elemental, comments: “It’s brilliant to be working on InstallerSPOTLIGHT with Grundfos to champion women in HVAC. It’ll be fascinating to find out more about the opportunities for women in this sector and how we can best support them, while sharing the different journeys of the inspiring women at the heart of the industry.”
Grundfos states: “We are committed to fostering diversity and inclusivity within the plumbing and heating industry. Recognising the underrepresentation of both women and young professionals, we are proud to collaborate with Installer to actively promote and empower women and young adults. We believe that diverse perspectives drive innovation and excellence. Through this partnership, we are taking a step towards breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for both women and young professionals. Together we aim to create a more welcoming place for all.”
