The new META Small is an innovative new water boosting pump solution manufactured by Calpeda as an addition to the E-idos range. The META Small features and benefits can be categorised into three areas; functionality, energy efficiency and sustainability.
Functionality
The META Small is the first in its range to have a fanless design instead of a traditional fan. Cooling is achieved through the movement as water as well as the heat being dissipated through the aluminium fins on the motor casing. This enables operation at less than 50dB as well as the reduction in temperature versus traditional designs which also contributes to improved lifespan on the motor bearings. Each component is replaceable as a spare part, making the META Small simple and cost effective to maintain, minimising lifetime costs and maximising value.
The META Small is also small by name and by nature, the pump has a footprint of just 160mm x 390mm x 240mm. It’s available as a compact twin pump solution too, giving maximum output for minimum spatial requirements. The twin set can be operated in a duty/assist configuration due to the patented software within the integrated variable speed drives which enable the META Small pumps to changeover instantaneously to maintain a constant pressure.
Since the META Small has such a compact design and quiet operation, it is ideally suited to domestic applications.
Energy efficiency
Energy efficiency was one of the key considerations when designing the META Small. The product has a high efficiency asynchronous motor driven by an intelligent integrated variable speed drive. Its patented design also ensures there are no hydraulic losses due to measuring devices. These features combine to create one of the most efficient and cost-effective water boosting solutions available on the market. The META Small in general operation can save up to 70% of the energy used by an equivalent traditional pump. With the rising costs of energy globally, the quantifiable cost savings due to the ongoing energy savings give a short return on investment by upgrading to a META Small.
Sustainability
The saving in energy through use of a META Small equates to approximately 550 kWh per year when used, on average, 4 hours per day. Although the advantages are not just economic. If this value is converted into amounts of CO2 not released into the atmosphere, the total comes to approximately 400kg per year.
The consumption of raw materials is also a very important aspect for the environment and consideration when designing the META Small. To produce META we calculated a base material saving (iron, copper and aluminium) of 45% in relation to traditional pumps. Electronic performance optimisation means that smaller motors can be used and the stages can be reduced from 5 to 2 while maintaining the same levels of performance – as well as a reduction of 90% in plastic use versus competitor solutions.
