ev.energy is one of the sponsors of the Installing the Future. Now! feature at InstallerSHOW from 21st to 23rd June at the NEC. Ahead of the event, it has shared this guidance about the updated UK charge point regulations.
From 30th June 2022 it will be illegal to sell and install home and workplace charge points in Great Britain that do not comply with the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021 and ev.energy is helping the industry prepare for this change.
The Enforcement Policy states that maximum penalties of up to £50,000 could be imposed on those selling charge points that do not comply with the new regulations. The Office for Product Safety & Standards (OPSS) will determine what level of monetary penalty is reasonable and proportionate, based on its assessment of the nature, seriousness and circumstances of the case.
New guidance for sellers of electric vehicle charge points has been published by OPPS. The guidance document details the new product requirements relating to:
- Smart functionality
- Electricity supplier interoperability
- Loss of communications, network access
- Safety
- Measuring system
- Off-peak charging
- Default off-peak charging
- Demand Side Response
- Randomised delay
- Security
To provide assurance that each charge point sold complies with the regulations, the following documentation is required:
- Technical file – providing proof of full compliance for each make, model and software version of charge point sold
- Statement of compliance – must be provided with each charge point sold
- Register of sales – must record sales of all relevant charge points sold from 30th June 2022 and maintain entries in the register for 10 years
ev.energy can support anyone in the industry to achieve compliance, including charger manufacturers, distributors and installers. To learn more about how these new regulations will affect your business, get in touch with ev.energy’s expert team.
