The Green Vision Beyond Water: Rethinking Bathroom Culture concept premiered last year, encouraging sustainable behaviour change in bathroom routines. How has this been received, and how close are we to seeing a real shift in water and energy use?
When we look at today’s big environmental issues, a key area under scrutiny for its high-water usage is the bathroom. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the water they are using so it stands to reason that, as energy bills remain at an all-time high, the demand for more sustainable bathroom options is increasing.
Additionally, as many more customers are not only considering the environmental impact that using a product has, but also in its creation. As consumers try to cut down waste in other areas, such as single-use plastics, the throw away and replace mentality seems on the decline. Instead, many want products that will last, even if they must pay that little more upfront for it. For many, sustainability is a top priority, however experiences still matter. The technology included in the latest eco showers and showerheads maintain the luxurious showering experiences many customers are looking for, while making water-saving effective and straight-forward.
EcoSmart technology from hansgrohe, for example, is integrated into many of our hand showers and overhead showers. It reduces the water flow automatically to around 6 to 9 litres per minute, saving at least 43% of water compared to a conventional product. This also means less water is heated, providing a further incentive for homeowners to switch and save on energy bills too.
EcoSmart ensures a constant water flow, even with low or fluctuating water pressure, to ensure user experience will remain the same. This has been proven through customer feedback too, with 9 out of 10 customers agreeing that the Pulsify Select S hand shower with EcoSmart technology still results in a great showering experience, despite using 40% less water. By making sustainable technology readily available to consumers, through well-thought-out design concepts, we can also influence consumer behaviour to make daily sanitation rituals more sustainable.
For example, when using a basin mixer most of us will use the tap in the middle position for small hygiene tasks such as washing hands or brushing our teeth. However, on most basin mixers this means the hot water system will start up when the tap is in the middle position, when hot water isn’t necessarily required by the user. With hansgrohe’s CoolStart technology, when the tap is set to the middle position CoolStart will only allow a flow of cold water, but once the lever is deliberately turned, the hot water will then be sent through the pipelines. This reduces the heating of water when not needed, and a four-person household that heats water with gas could save up to £52 every year simply by using a CoolStart tap.

What are the key shower trends for 2024 in terms of design and colourways?
Bathroom finish trends often come and go; however, Matt Black is a finish that seems here to stay. Its versatility to create a modern industrial look to providing an alternative to chrome, seems to add to its lasting appeal.
The demand for alternative metallic finishes and Matt White is also on the rise, and something we expect to see grow in popularity in future. To ensure installers, housebuilders and contractors have a wide range of products to choose from, hansgrohe has now expanded its range of showers and taps that come in Matt Black and Matt White as standard.
For those looking to provide those alternative metallic options for customers, FinishPlus from hansgrohe includes top trend-led colours, such as Brushed Bronze, Brushed Black Chrome, Polished Gold Optic and Matt White, to provide a suite of options for the bespoke bathroom.
In the bathroom, products are exposed to a variety of elements including moisture in the air and weathering from use in high-traffic areas, so it is essential products are designed to last with robust resistance to these external factors. To provide peace of mind, hansgrohe’s premium PVD coatings maintain their colour brilliance for over 50 years. In addition – hansgrohe’s Special Lacquer Coatings (for Matt White & Matt Black) last for more than 25 years.

How does the new showroom facility in Warwick complement your training offering?
Having a location in the middle of the country means that we are easily accessible to more customers, especially those in the north of the UK who may find the journey to our Water Studio in Clerkenwell too arduous.
The new premises showcase our corporate philosophy, as well as having a comprehensive presentation of our AXOR and hansgrohe Brands.
Being able to experience our products in a working setting is key when conveying the USPs of our showering products, and our new showroom offers the customer a lot of opportunities to get hands-on with the different shower spray patterns.
Seeing and feeling the different flow rates in operation has a great impact on customers as we can demonstrate how our EcoSmart and EcoSmart+ flow rates work in comparison to full flow rate products.
We are also able to show all of our PVD and Lacquer finishes across both brands, as well as having displays of some bespoke products to demonstrate our AXOR Signature service.

What feedback have you had on the iBox Universal 2 since its launch?
The feedback from the iBox Universal 2 has been really positive. We have been running a ‘test it’ campaign for the last 6 months to gather feedback directly from installers, which has resulted in some great feedback and endorsements, some of which are:
“The alignment, connection and installation, especially for the following trade, is easy and can only be rated with 5 stars. Simply top !!!”
“I particularly like the fact that the seal is integrated, so it can’t get lost on the construction site.”
With this, we are certain that the iBox Universal 2 will make installation quicker and with the new slimline design of the finish sets and competitive price points sales will supersede the original iBox during 2024 and beyond.
