ENA Connect Direct – The free tool to fast-track domestic grid connection approvals
As more households invest in solar panels, heat pumps and battery storage, we know installers are under pressure to deliver projects quickly whilst still meeting electricity network approval requirements. To help speed up the process, Energy Networks Association (ENA) developed ENA Connect Direct, a free digital platform designed to help simplify how domestic low- carbon technologies are approved and connected to the grid.
Installers often have to deal with different forms and processes that can vary from region to region. This additional administration risks slower installation times for customers.
ENA Connect Direct allows installers to submit applications digitally in minutes and, in many cases, receive instant approvals for installations such as solar PV, battery storage and heat pumps.
The platform has been developed collaboratively by the UK’s electricity Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to accommodate the growing demand for low carbon technologies.
While householders do not use ENA Connect Direct directly, by working with qualified installers who do, they can benefit from:

The digital platform is available free of charge for installers across Great Britain and Northern Ireland and is helping modernise what was previously a largely paper-based process.
As the number of domestic low carbon installations continues to grow across the UK, new features will be rolled out to improve the overall experience for installers.
Existing standout features include enhanced AI-enabled cut-out recognition and auto-commissioning capabilities, designed to deliver faster approvals, streamline processes and reduce errors.
