Dr Seb Berry’s solar rooftop highlights

InstallerSHOW at the NEC this year coincides with ongoing growth in the UK solar rooftop market and an increase in the number of installers and electricians wanting to work in the sector. Dr Seb Berry highlights some of his solar highlights coming up at the event.

The huge expansion in the solar rooftop market is reflected in the exhibitor and expert sessions lined up at the show, which features industry leaders such as SolarEdge and Viridian Solar, as well as vital certification bodies and standards organisations including MCS and NAPIT.  This free to visit show is a must attend for installers and others in the solar sector wanting to get up to speed on the latest industry trends, products and innovations.

The three day event from 25th-27th June is the largest InstallerSHOW to date, with 50% more space and over 600 exhibitors across the heating, plumbing and electrical sectors.  The show has quadrupled in size in just three years, with 150 exhibitors attending back in 2021.

This year, there’s a packed programme of events and product briefings spread across different event hubs. Those of particular interest to the solar industry will be the dedicated Solar Innovations Hub, as well as the Housing Hub and various events in the large elemental Arena.

All the live debates, seminars and product demonstrations are free to attend. For the solar industry, particular highlights are technical sessions by Viridian Solar, Wagner Renewables, Solar Edge, MCS, NAPIT and Solar Energy UK, as well as topical expert panels on the Future Homes Standard and zero-carbon Councils.

Whoever wins the election on 4th July, local councils will have a key role to play driving forwards positive solar policies, so this is an important session with speakers from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Oxford City Council and North East and Yorkshire Net Zero Hub.

With policy uncertainties surrounding the outcome of the forthcoming General Election and the long awaited Government/industry solar taskforce report, there’s also a timely panel on “Mission possible: what we need to deliver net zero.” The panel includes former Minister Chris Skidmore, who led the 2023 independent review of government net zero policy, and later resigned over Government North Sea oil and gas policy.

Previous solar exhibitors at the free to attend InstallerSHOW have testified to the success of the event, highlighting the attendance of large number of solar installers, as well as electricians and other installers interested in joining the sector.

With the solar rooftop sector set to build further on the 190,000 installations delivered in 2023, a twelve year high, InstallerSHOW this year should be on every installer’s must attend list.
