Plumbing for Change—The Bokhejunda Water Distribution Project
The Bokhejunda Water Distribution Project is a new humanitarian initiative led by the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) and The Worshipful Company of Plumbers, in partnership with the Dolma Foundation. In November 2025, a team of four young UK plumbers travelled to Changam Basti, Nepal, to restore a broken water distribution system, bringing round-the-clock access to clean water for 60 residents and delivering hands-on training to support long-term maintenance.
This panel, chaired by David Adams, former HR Director and a Past Master at the Worshipful Company of Plumbers, with key contributions from some of the PPDS volunteers (Ruben Duggan, Ollie Salmon, Daisy Turner, and Ethan Wynn) explores the power of plumbing to transform lives, highlighting the technical, cultural and personal dimensions of working in remote and resource-constrained environments.
It reflects on the role of professional expertise in humanitarian contexts and considers how global collaboration can drive sustainable change—one connection, one community at a time—while inviting open discussion around inclusive design, equity and the future of sanitation in a changing world.
