Giving London's trees a second life - building a traceable supply of locally sourced hardwood
Furniture makers and woodworkers are increasingly being asked by their clients where their materials come from. Provenance, environmental footprint and local sourcing are no longer niche concerns – they are part of the conversation between maker and client, and customers are prepared to pay for materials with a story.
Fallen & Felled has been building an alternative hardwood supply chain – salvaging trees felled in and around London due to disease, old age or development that would otherwise be wasted, and converting them into high-quality joinery timber.
In this session, Bruce Saunders and Patrick Welsh talk about how they have developed a business that makes local, traceable timber a practical reality for makers, why demand for it continues to grow, and the challenges they've faced along the way.
