Nesta, the UK’s innovation charity, is committed to finding ways to speed up home decarbonisation.
Heat pumps are the best current technology to support the decarbonisation of homes and we want to increase take-up of the heating technology, but there are only 250,000 UK homes with a heat pump.
We’re making it fast and simple for anybody to see a heat pump near them and learn more about it, helping them take the next step towards getting one.
Many people will never (knowingly) have seen a heat pump in real life. Our work on heat pump customer journeys shows the process of acquiring a heat pump is long and arduous with many potential drop-off points.
We found that people thinking about getting a heat pump sought advice and information from peers and that heat pump owners are often willing to share their experiences.
A network of open homes
To help people make informed decisions about low-carbon home heating we’ve developed www.visitaheatpump.com – a service to enable people to register to visit a heat pump near them through a network of open homes.
Owners of heat pumps will be able to sign up to the service, registering ‘open home’ events – helping to make the UK’s home heating cleaner and greener by sharing their experiences of the benefits of a heat pump.
Homeowners interested in installing a heat pump can book a visit to see a heat pump in action and learn more about what it’s like to have one from heat pump owners and installers – the people who know best.
This service is currently open to register interest from hosts and visitors. The service to book visits will launch in September.
