It was a humbling yet inspirational experience filming the latest clutch of InstallerMERIT recipients who will receive their recognitions at InstallerSHOW this month.
Now in its 4th year, InstallerMERIT is unlike any event in our industry and will be returning on the 27th June 2023. It’s not about products, services or installations – it’s dedicated to outstanding people in our industry doing great things – often with little or no personal gain.
I’m always surprised by the incredible attitude of heating and plumbing engineers. There are so many examples of installers going above and beyond, from charity installations, to helping their colleagues and customers through hard times, and everything in between.
I always ask engineers why they think there are so many examples of engineers supporting others. They never have an answer because, for them, it’s all part of the job, it’s in their DNA, which is one of their most impressive traits.
Heating and plumbing engineers are an emergency service. Heating and hot water are essential to our health, especially in the winter months. When it isn’t working, it needs fixing quickly.
Installers are on the front line of that and engage with the public every day, regardless of their customer’s backgrounds, situations or beliefs.
Engineers are also doers. If something needs fixing, they fix it. If there’s a problem, they will find a solution. That ranges from fixing a broken heating system, to supporting a friend in need, raising money for charity, and whatever else they need to do.
It’s always inspiring speaking to these people and I’m looking forward to recognising three more InstallerMERIT recipients at InstallerSHOW in June. These people are a credit to an impressive industry and it makes me proud to be part of it.
