The way we are consuming water is changing. A large part of this shift is due to a growing awareness around our environmental footprints and collective social responsibility. Climate change is upon us and shows no signs of slowing down. Consumers are increasingly aware of their individual responsibility to help change.
As more consumers are purchasing with their conscience, with sustainability increasingly at the forefront of their decisions, it has never been more important to find creative solutions that enable more responsible consumption. From manufacturing processes and logistics through to product design and circularity, brands in the KBB sector must lead by example.
At Quooker we are constantly looking for ways to innovate for good. To create products that have a minimum impact on the planet but a maximum one on people. Take our Quooker CUBE, an accessory that has been designed as a direct result of tackling the problem of single-use plastic waste. The average UK household uses 360 single-use plastic bottles per year. Given there are over 28.2 million households in the country, that is a substantial amount of plastic being thrown away after one use. But Quooker offers a solution. Taps fitted with this accessory can now dispense sparkling water at the touch of a button. With CUBE, the immediacy of super chilled, filtered and sparkling water can be enjoyed without having to wait or waste water. With one canister of C02, CUBE yields 60 litres of carbonated water which significantly reduces the need for this single-use plastic.
The reduction of water waste is also a key goal that has driven our innovation. Unlike a kettle which is too often under or overfilled resulting in re-boiled or wasted water, Quooker’s precise water distribution technology gives radical water savings given there is zero water waste. For example, with Quooker’s CUBE, chilled water can be accessed instantly rather than having to run the tap for a while before it gets cold. With a PRO3 tank, homeowners can save up to 500 litres of water, with the COMBI tank this figure increases with up to 4,500 litres being saved per year.
As an industry, we have a collective responsibility to drive change and manufacture greener products and appliances that can make an impact for good.
