Joe Sharpe, Head of Content at Installer, looks at how the recent Net Zero FESTIVAL highlights the appetite from engineers for content on the future of energy
Net Zero is one of the hottest topics in the industry today, making headlines in both the trade press and now mainstream media.
As Craig Dolan, Vice Chair of the Heat Pump Association said in our recent webinar: “Good news, everyone is focussed on the heating industry…bad news, everyone is focussed on the heating industry.”
Lowering emissions, moving to low temperature heating systems, and moving away from fossil fuels is absolutely essential, and 2022 has been a positive year for renewables.
You can take a look at the excellent new MCS Data Dashboard, and see the rise in 2022 of technologies like Air Source Heat pump installations and Solar PV.
But there is still a lot to consider when we talk about getting the heating industry ready for Net Zero. The key themes that came from our webinars were that it will be a mixture of technologies, we need a lot of recruitment, and engineers are absolutely key to this transition.
What is clear from our sessions is that no matter where they are on their Net Zero journey, our installer audience is interested and engaged with the future of energy.
In November, we hosted eight sessions over four days covering a range of topics and technologies including training, customer expectations, off grid solutions, water efficiency and more. All of these webinars were available to view live and now on demand, and were hosted by some of the industry’s leading experts.
This was our second Net Zero FESTIVAL of the year, following on from February, and we’ve had over 1,500 registrations live and on-demand. As well as accessing the latest information, it also gives installers the chance to have their questions answered and comments heard, and these were some of the most engaged audiences we’ve seen.
Heating and plumbing engineers are in their busiest part of the year, facing challenges like rising energy prices and the cost of living crisis. They have to run their businesses and keep their customers happy in the here and now, but they know that change is coming and will adapt to what the future holds.
