R290 Heat Pump vs R32 Heat Pump
R290 has an extremely low GWP of only 3, making it one of the most environmentally friendly refrigerants available. It produces zero ozone depletion and aligns with global sustainability goals. However, its high flammability (A3 classification) requires careful handling and compliance with safety regulations during installation and maintenance.
In comparison, R32 has a higher GWP of 675 but is still much lower than older refrigerants such as R410A. It is classified as mildly flammable (A2L), which makes it easier to handle while still requiring professional installation.
Energy Efficiency and Performance
Both R290 and R32 deliver excellent heating and cooling efficiency, but their performance characteristics differ slightly:
● R290 Heat Pumps: With superior thermodynamic properties, R290 often achieves higher Coefficient of Performance (COP) in moderate climates. Its energy efficiency makes it ideal for environmentally focused projects.
● R32 Heat Pumps: R32 is highly efficient for both cooling and heating, particularly in high-temperature regions. Its smaller refrigerant charge and lower operating pressure allow for compact system designs suitable for urban residential units and commercial applications.
