SIP, or Safe Installation Provider, is a UK energy industry accreditation that enables qualified renewable energy installers to safely de-energise and re-energise a property’s electrical supply without requiring attendance from the Distribution Network Operator (DNO). Traditionally, only electricity suppliers or network operators were authorised to remove and replace the main service fuse, which often created delays, additional costs, and scheduling challenges for installation companies. SIP accreditation removes this barrier by granting approved installers the authority to carry out electrical isolation themselves while remaining fully compliant with industry regulations and safety standards.
